General Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide attendees with a practical knowledge about telecommunications technology, applications and benefits. This knowledge should enable any attendee to effectively describe and discuss basic components, services and functions of the telecommunications network. The target audience is all new employees or employees not familiar with or needing a refresher in basic telecommunications. Course Objective: This is an introductory level course. There are no telephony prerequisites. Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to demonstrate in a measurable fashion that they can: · List the major regulatory decisions that have shaped the competitive telecommunications industry. · Describe the impact of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. · Define IXC, ILEC, CLEC and CAP. · Describe how new entrants offer competitive services. · Match signaling methods with common applications. · Differentiate between in-band and out-of-band signaling. · Recognize the benefits associated with Signaling System 7. Instructional Media: The course will be delivered using classroom techniques that include interactive lecture along with individual and team activities that appeal to all learning styles. Course Customizations: This workshop can be customized to be delivered to an ILEC or CLEC audience.
