General Course Description: The purpose of this workshop is to provide attendees with an introduction to data networking concepts, terminology and fundamentals. The workshop introduces a variety of topics that will provide a sales person with enough subject matter knowledge to intelligently converse and interact with clients regarding their computing environment, strategies, technologies, and data networking needs. The target audience is ILEC and CLEC sales and sales support personnel. Course Objective: Attendees will be expected to have basic knowledge of telephone company products and services. Participants who complete this course will be able to: · Explain the direction of today's computing environments. · Draw typical configurations of customer's computing environments. · Articulate basic equipment components. · Identify communication-relevant portions of operating systems. · Use the OSI reference model as a structure for understanding data processing/networking environments and related issues. · Explain evolving data networking trends/standards. · Articulate the features and capabilities of various internetworking devices, including switches and routers. · Discuss various aspects of dedicated and packet-based networking solutions. Instructional Media: This is a facilitator-led workshop that includes interactive lecture, individual and team activities and case studies and applications examples that appeal to all learning styles. The course is designed for a maximum of 20 attendees per session. Mastery will be determined based on a comparison of pre-course test results with post course test results. Course Customizations: This course can be tailored to meet local needs. Customization might include references to an individual company's local tariffs and specific products and services, including their product names and pricing strategies. In addition, the course can be modified for a mixed audience consisting of attendees from different organizations within the company, both sales people and non-sales people. Customization fees will depend on the type and extent of the customization request. |
