General Course Description: 

This course is a two-day leader-led workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to provide field sales people with the knowledge required to solve business customer's problems with IP based products and services. The use of the Internet and Internet technologies is growing rapidly among businesses. Business processes are being made more efficient, supply chains shortened and links with customers enhanced. Sales people must understand the impact of Internet technologies on a business and how to effectively position their products with their customer set. This workshop will provide sufficient technical background to enable a field sales person to identify prospects, uncover needs and recommend IP services solutions.

Course Objective:

Participants who complete this course will be able to:

· Describe the strengths and weaknesses of packet based technologies as compared to traditional circuit switched technologies.

· List the most common protocols included in the TCP/IP Protocol Suite and their applications.

· List the strengths and weaknesses of access alternatives when given a customer situation.

· Recognize business applications for Internet based technologies.

· Develop a list of the most common security threats associated with Internet based technologies and how they impact business performance.

· Describe the three most common firewall technologies and their strengths and weaknesses.

· List the advantages of an Internet based VPN over dedicated private line and frame relay alternatives.

· Identify the key components of a VPN that ensure secure transmission of confidential business information.

· Describe the web hosting alternatives that are available.

· Describe the key components associated with a web hosting application.

· Recognize which web hosting alternative would most likely be chosen based on a business customer's profile.

· Develop an interview plan to uncover a business customer's need for an IP based solution.

· Prepare a recommendation for an IP based solution.

Instructional Media:

The course will be delivered using classroom techniques that include interactive lecture along with individual and team activities that appeal to all learning styles. Mastery of the material will be demonstrated in skills practice sessions. There will be no formal Mastery Test administered.

Course Customizations:

This workshop can be customized to be delivered to an ILEC or CLEC audience.
